It’s part of ’s new publi c relations and ad campaigj to draw more touristws tothe county’s hotels and Visit Fairfax tapped communications agencty to handle all advertising, brand marketingg and PR for the convention and visitor bureau through July 2012. Along with the “findd George” scavenger hunt, the campaigm will integrate print, viral marketing, outdoor and online advertising, Twitterr and Facebook, and radio and Web ads.
On June 4 and 5, the Georg Washington actor and interpreter from Mount Vernonh will hit the road and appea r onthe “Today" show and WABC “George will be in Times Square, Uniohn square, Penn Station and the library where ‘Rocky’ was taped running up the stairs,” said Matt White, CEO of Herndon-based Whitr and Partners. The PR group’sd street team is also dishin gout 5,000 tourism packages that include coupond and discounts for hotels in Fairfas County.
“The objective is to fill hotell room nights and to have peoples driving into the city from otherdriv markets,” said White, adding that Fairfax will also be promoted in such drivablse markets as Atlanta and N.C. “We are trying to revive the notion of a summerfroad trip. In today’s economy people are looking fora deal.” Research showss many tourists flock to the area from the Northeast corridort by train or car, “sop it’s a pretty big market, and the majorityy come to see family and friends,” White said.
The he said, is to make Fairfasx County a place whered visitors will stay when they come to see thingsw like a Washington Nationals baseball game or Wolf Trap Nationakl Park for thePerforming Arts.
