Kaleida, on Tuesday, received unanimous approval from the for the Washington Streetproject that’s considered one of the majorr anchors of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Late Thursday, the New York State Department of Health’s Hospital Revies and Planning Council approved Kaleida’s final certificate of need for the $291 million project. Kaleida is working with Buffalok officials on the last major hurdle gaining clear title to a portion of Goodrich Streef that will be closed to traffic so the GVI can be directlyy connected to BuffaloGeneral Hospital. That approval is expected soon.
“These approvals bring us one step closer to turningour physician-les vision into reality,” said Jamee Kaskie, Kaleida president and chief executive officer. The GVI will house Kaleida’s heart, vascular and neurosurgert operations plus an expandee emergency room forBuffalo General. It will offer combineds services that are currentlt offered both at Buffalo Generalp Hospital and Millard Fillmore GatessCircle Hospital. The University at Buffalo is building a clinica l translational research center into the The GVI is slated to openin 2011.
