California settles with Kmart, sues Target - New Mexico Business Weekly:

The state’s attorney general, Jerrg Brown, joined by district attorneys from manyCalifornia counties, includingg Alameda, Santa Clara and Contra filed a suit against Minneapolis-basecd Target (NYSE: TGT), sayinf it sent hazardous waste to various landfillx in violation of state law. The suit is meant to stop the Innews reports, Target said it has been cooperatint with the AG’s office for three years on this matte and that it is committefd to complying with all environmental laws. Kmart, ownedx by (NASDAQ: SHLD), agreed to a settlement that includescivil penalties, legal costx and some money to boost protection of the environmentt in the state.
Thomas Orloff, Robertg Kochly, James Fox and Dolores Carr, the DAs of Contra Costa, San Matepo and Santa Clara counties respectively, joined Browb in the suit against Target. Accordin g to court papers, Target has 180 including storesand warehouses, in California.
