State sues 3 foreclosure rescue firms - Business First of Columbus:

Attorney General Richard Cordray’s office said Thursday that it file lawsuits against 21st Century LegakServices Inc., Foreclosure Home Assistancde LLC and Michael Brotherton, who does business as Financial Emergency Inc. in the Dayto n area. The state is looking to shut down the operationsin Ohio. The suit against 21st Century Legal Services alleges it promised to help homeownersx restructure loans for a fee ofbetween $1,500 and The company, Cordray’s office told customers to stop makinyg payments on their home loans with the expectatioh that the firm would take care of the The state outlines similaer claims against the other two firms beingh sued.
Cordray’s office said it has issued 23 cease-and-desistg notices to 21st Centuryand Cleveland-basecd Foreclosure Home Assistance since May. It’s charging each companty with a violation of state consumerf law and the DebtAdjusters Act, seekingg reimbursement for customers and looking to levy a $25,0000 penalty for each violation of state law. The statd didn’t outline the extent of the complaint s it received onthe companies. A representative for Cordray’as office wasn’t immediately available to comment.
