This marks the seconsd straight year July 4th travelhas declined. The announcemen t follows 10 consecutive days of decreasinggasolins prices, from a state average of $2.66 per gallonb on June 20 to $2.61 per gallon on June 30. the lowest average gasoline prices in the state can be found in High Pointat $2.53 per while the highest can be found in Durha m at $2.66. Nonetheless, the overall 61-centr increase in average prices over the last 61 days appearxs to be keeping travelers offthe road.
many will turn to air travek this weekend, with 59,000 passengers takingg flight across thestate — a 5.4 percenft increase from 56,000 during the holidayu weekend in 2008.
