National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board wants federal money for bus system - Washington Business Journal:

The group’s proposal for a and a busway alon g K Street will costaround $676 million and must be submitted by Sept. 15. Thouguh the price tag may drop as the group refinees the plan before itsfall deadline, stimulus funds will likely account for $276 million of the total The region will receive some stimulu money based on a national formula, but will also vie for the maximuj amount of $300 million from the available $1.5 billion in discretionary funds for transportation projects The bus service would run on a serie of dedicated bus lanes and coulcd deliver as early as 2012.
The systemj would get traffic signal prioritt andshow real-time passenger information similar to the Metro system. Under the currenyt proposal, 1.3 miles of K Street NW from Mount Vernon Square to WashingtonCirclde – would be expanded for two lanes of bus-onlh traffic and two lanes of regulatr traffic in each direction. Other express bus componentx would run onInterstate 395/95 HOT lanez from the Pentagon to Dale on the 14th Street Bridger from Franklin Square to the Pentagom and on Interstate 66 from Gainesville to Rosslyn, and Rosslybn to K Street NW via the Roosevelt Bridge.
The transportation planning board will also proposeroffering 1,600 bicycles to bike-sharing stations in the Alexandria, Arlington County, Bethesda and Silver Ideally that service could expand as far as Colleg Park, Falls Church and National Harbor.
