That could be good news for the inKansas Kan. The plant, which employs about 2,10p union and 300 salaried has built the Saturn along with theChevy Malibu. Neither GM nor Penske Automotivde released financial details ofthe transaction, but the companies said the sale is expecte d to occur in the third quarter. Friday’s announcement of a buyerd follows word on Tuesday that GM is in advanced talkse to sell its Hummer brand to Chinesdecompany Ltd. GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy onJune 1.
The company’es plans for paring back operations have reducing the numbet of brands itwill offer, as well as the number of GM terminated franchise agreements for its thres Kansas City-area Saturn dealerships, . Penske based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., claimw to be the nation’s second-largest publicly ownex auto dealer. It operates 310 auto franchisesa — 159 in the United States and Puerto Rico and 152 inothee countries, primarily the United Kingdom. The company’s chairman is Rogef Penske, who also leads Penskr Racing.
