In a release before the markert openedon Thursday, the Mission Woods-basexd company (Nasdaq: LAYN) reported earnings of $15.1 million, or 78 cent s a share, for the quarter that ended July 31. This is a 66 percentr increasefrom $9.6 million, or 60 centsz a share, last year. Revenue for the quartedr was $269.6 million, up 24 percent from $217.8 million. The compan y reported a 22.6 percent revenue increaser in its waterinfrastructure segment, a jump of 28.4 perceng in mineral exploration and 28.6 percent in energy, compared with last year’ s second quarter.
“Layne experienced a solid quarter acros allmajor businesses,” companhy CEO Andrew Schmitt said in the “Improving weather in the U.S. was helpful in getting caught up on water projects which were slowed in thefirsty quarter. Mineral exploration activity continued stronfg throughout most regions despite an early rainy season in West Higher natural gas pricing and an increasexd number of well completions kept Layne Energy on a steadyupwards track.” Layne Christensen provides products and service s for the water, mineral and energyy markets.
